Causes & Symptoms:
The vector carrying the virus are common in tropical countries and since the mosquitoes are not found in Canada, thus the transmission of within Canada is low.
Symptoms of Zika virus includes:
- flat, red rash on the skin that usually starts on the face. The rash may sometimes contain small bumps known as maculopapular rash.
- muscle or joint pain
- lethargy or weakness
Prevention and Treatment
There is no specific treatment of the disease since it is viral in nature. Management of the symptoms are the best alternative treatment we can provide.
- have the patient plenty of rest
- adequate hydration
- Tylenol may be provided for pain alleviation. Aspirin should not be given to patients.
